Something I have wanted for a while now
I love the idea of learning languages. I have tried most of the usual doors into it: apps, flashcards, courses, immersion playlists, the whole toolbox. Nothing ever stuck, and for a long time I assumed that was a me problem. It wasn't. Not everyone learns the same way, and most tools are built for one kind of learner and hope the rest of us adapt.
Then one day the idea found me sideways, the way good ideas usually do. I was talking to a friend who lives in a different country, and somewhere in the conversation I said, half joking, "maybe I can be your study buddy." The moment it left my mouth it stopped being a joke.
Because it is not just languages I love learning. It is information, full stop. New subjects, new ideas, the feeling of a thing clicking into place. And that is when it actually clicked. What if learning a language and learning a subject did not have to be two separate efforts? What if reading, which I had heard again and again was one of the best ways into a new language, was the thing that tied them together?
So I started pulling the idea apart. What would it mean to read something real, something you actually wanted to understand, in a language you were still learning, without having to choose between comprehension and immersion. What would it mean for the tool to explain not just words but meaning, rooted in the exact page you were on. What would it mean for the things you read to organize themselves, so the byproduct of studying was a library instead of a mess of open tabs and half finished PDFs.
The pieces kept fitting together faster than I expected.
And it needed a name. Something that felt like it belonged to both halves of the idea, reading and language, without shouting either one. I landed on Gloseta.
I do not know exactly where this application is going to take me yet. I have a direction, a first working slice, more questions than answers, and a genuine appetite for building this next part. That is enough to start.
More soon.
Here are some generated icon that I could use for the actual application. sometimes I get a little too exited and want to see some visuals so I had a good friend design it for me(gemini)
